On behalf of the Society of The Astral Star (aka The Order of The Star of Bethlehem) and it's members, I would like to welcome you to our OFFICIAL Library pages! We are FINALLY on-line! This project has been a long time in planning and development - and our work here is NOT COMPLETE. We are still working on it! I would like to take this opportunity to thank our GHFr. Pneuma for his assistance in placing all these documents into html code for me.
First of all, I would like to point out that we have a general list of all the works we have in our Order's Esoteric Section of our Library listed. We have this area labeled as our on-line "Card Catalog" - however that term is not exactly correct. We do not have a page or card for each book we have. After much debate, we decided to use the same basic format that was used on our Society's General Dictionary/Glossary for Aspirants - which we believe to be familiar with most of our members. The primary source list for the Order's Library actually is a single MS Word document that lists all the collected books, and audio/visual materials alphabetically by author and then by title. The noted high ceremonial Christian magickian, Dr. John Dee of Elizabethan England had a similar catalog of his library in his time, and when Fr. Pneuma had collected enough materials, he liked the idea and made a similar catalog of his own listing the items he had in his library. That library was to become the principle source for the Order's Library - which he has generously donated to the Society. Other Members and Friends of The Order have donated works to the Society from their own personal libraries - in whole and/or in part. We have numerous very rare, out of print, and extraordinary volumes in our collection. Several volumes have been signed by the author(s), and many of the more current writers have sent us a copy of their latest work with a brief note and signed inscription to include in our collection. We are very grateful for their kind considerations.
Members, Friends of The Order, and legitimate researchers may request to use the library and it's materials. Most of our works are NOT lent out due to costs of shipping and concern for the safe arrival and return of the materials themselves. Anyone requesting to make use of our Society's Library should write to me and make arrangements that meet both parties scheduling needs. The Society's Library is currently located in Georgetown, Scott County, Kentucky, in the United States of America. It is currently located in a private residence - as the Society has not obtained an independent corporate property of it's own.
We continue to take donations of library materials for the Society. We accept books, CD's, DVD's, and collections of periodicals from all disciplines of academic study - especially in our esoteric/occult section. We strive to keep in the library's inventory the best single volume of a given title when more than one copy has been donated/obtained. We also take into consideration the edition of the volume, with the earlier edition being retained whenever possible. We retain several copies of works that are used in the Society's General Course Curriculum to loan out to members and associate members who are financially unable to obtain the works themselves. At present, twenty percent (20%) of the general fund each year is designated by the General Synod to make new purchases for the Society's Library. Additionally, we may elect to liquidate multiple copies of duplicate works in order to purchase works which the Society does not have in it's collection at the present time. If you are interested in donating materials to our Society's Library, whether it be a single volume or a bequethment of your entire personal library after your passing, please feel free to contact me to discuss the details.
Secondly, we have placed a number of important esoteric/occult reference works and a number of classics in the western esoteric tradition on-line in .pdf format. It is our hope and desire to place as many of these works on-line as possible for the use of our members and interested parties. These documents appear under the listing of on-line Stacks. Wherever possible, we place links from the listing in the Card Catalog directly to the .pdf document in the on-line Stack as a convenience. We also link these documents whenever possible from our Order's Curriculum, grade by grade and degree by degree.
Thirdly, we link to the Society's on-line Journal, The Crux Mystica directly from our Library site.
We shall endeavor to update and revise our Library Page Indexes at least quarterly. I would like to say, "Thanks for stopping by!" If there is anything I can do to assist you in your research, please do not hesitate to contact me. I'll be happy to hear your comments and answer any questions that I can. Until then, we wish all of you the best of luck in your studies and future endeavors. We continue to remain most sincerely yours with,
Lots of Love,
Soror Leaena Ex Rosa
