Gives the Sign of Silence.

"Honored Hiereus/Hieria, ideally - how many Principle Officers are there in this and the other General Grades of the Order?"

HIEREUS/HIEREIA:

"Ideally, there are three Principle Officers in the General Grades of Aspirant, Adelphon, and Neophyte. Hierophant, Hiereus, and Hegemon." (Hierophantria, Hiereia, and Hegamone if the Officers are feminine).

HIEROPHANT/HIEROPHANTRIA:

"Is there any peculiarity in these names?"

HIEREUS/HIEREIA:

"They all begin with the letter 'H'."

HIEROPHANT/HIEROPHANTRIA:

"And what is this letter a symbol?"

HIEREUS/HIEREIA:

"Of life, because the letter 'H' is our mode of representing the ancient Greek 'aspirate' or breathing, and breath is the outer evidence of Life."

HIEROPHANT/HIEROPHANTRIA:

"How many minor officers are there?"

HIEREUS/HIEREIA:

"There are four minor officers in the General Grades of Aspirant, Adelphon, and Neophyte. The Kerux (Kerukains), Stolistes (Stolistra), Dadouchos (Dadouche), and the Sentinel. The Sentinel guards the Portal of the Hall and has a sword in his hand to keep out intruders."

HIEROPHANT/HIEROPHANTRIA:

"Frater Dadouchos (Soror Dadouche), what are your station and duties?"

DADOUCHOS/DADOUCHE:

"My station is in the South to symbolize Heat and Dryness, and my duty is to see that the Lamp and Fires of the Temple are ready at the opening, and to watch over the censer and Incense, and to consecrate the Hall, the Fratres and Sorors, and the Candidate with Fire."

HIEROPHANT/HIEROPHANTRIA:

HIEROPHANT/HIEROPHANTRIA:

My duty is to watch over the Gateway of the Hidden Knowledge, for I am the Reconciler between Light and Darkness. The White Color of my Cloak is the color of Purity; my ensign of Office is a mitre-headed scepter to symbolize religion which guides and regulates spiritual life, and my Office symbolizes those higher Aspirations of the Soul which should guide its actions in service."

My robe is red because I represent both uncreated and created fire, and I hold the septer of Power and the banner of the Morning Light, which is the Banner of the East. I am called Power, and Mercy, and Light, and Abundance, and I am the Expounder of the Mysteries."

"Frater Stolistes (Soror Stolistra), I command you to purify the Hall and members with water."

Stolistes goes to the East and faces Hierophant, salutes, and makes a cross with the Cup. The Stolistes holds the cup on high, and walks deocil, passing to the South, West, and North each point completing the circle by returning to the East where he faces The East and says while walking deocil:

STOLISTES/STOLISTRA:

"So therefore, first the Priest (-ess) who governeth the works of fire must sprinkle with the Lustral Waters of the loud resounding sea."

Stand before the High Altar, say:

"Purify me (us) with hyssop, Oh Lord, and I (we) shall be clean. Wash me (us) and I (we) shall be whiter than snow."

The Stolistes purifies the circle and each member with the passive elements of earth and water (salt water), beginning in the East, then passing from the East to the South, West, and North, at each cardinal point he salutes, and makes a cross with the Cup, and sprinkles thrice with first and second fingers and thumb of right hand, completing circle by returning to the East where he faces East. They pass on, Hegamon in front of Hiereus, and take their places behind the Kerux; Dadouchos follows Hegamon from the South, joining Stolistes from the West, being on the left of the Dadouchos. If there are too many members in the Temple/Hall, then ONLY the Officers circumbabulate. As each member passes the Hierophant/East, they salute in the direction of progress (i.e. in the direction they are going - deocil). The saluting sign is that of Neophyte - the projecting sign of Horus.

Hiereus passes the Hierophant once and takes their station. Hegemon passes the Hierophant twice and takes their station. All other Officers and Members pass three times and then take their station(s). Hierophant stands with his/her scepter in their right hand.
